One Heart

In Production

Most of us will not have the opportunity to travel across the globe to see and experience the fullness of another culture. Therefore, we often form our beliefs and understanding of other cultures through films, headlines, and news stories.
In the Western mind, Uganda is almost always associated with the dictorship of Idi Amin as portrayed in The Last King of Scotland, or through the stories from the northern region; home to the Lord’s Resistance Army and the suffering of child soldiers forced into the atrocities of war.

By going deeper into personal stories, we move beyond mere information and into a shared personal experience that challenges our preconceived ideas about other people, cultures, and about ourselves.

We meet brothers and sisters in Uganda of great faith and integrity that celebrate and highlight their deep, rich communal heritage. We also see the blessings and the challenges of prosperity in the Western world.

This beautiful friendship highlights the delicate balance between personal relationships and structured community models needed for successful local and global initiatives.  How moving beyond mere activities, programs, problems and solutions to friendship, understanding and forgiveness can bring about sustainable change.

The journey is not an easy one.  It means digging deep, letting go of preconceived ideas and moving out of our comfort zone.  Through conversations and personal reflections, common ground emerges between people who seemingly have nothing in common. A shift occurs - from individual pursuits to friends on the same journey, learning and changing together.
